Get your kids to a… flowers hunting!

It’s springtime, everybody! I know, it could be stormy, rainy, even chill, sometimes, moody like a beautiful young lady. It’s okay, but who doesn’t love this amazing time of the year when nature shows off?!
So, first thing first, the reason I give you this funny idea is to get out of your comfort zone and also to take your kids and grandkids out of their comfort zone, too! Make them forget about the internet and take them out, to discover wild flowers and to bring them home.
I know, when you live right in the middle of the… concrete jungle, this could be a huge challenge. In the meantime, it could be the perfect way to get a map and find the closest place where you can enjoy nature at its best. It could be a forest, a plane field, or a hill, where you can find some wild flowers and herbs to bring them home. Next step will be to check the internet to find out the name of those flowers and even a little story about them. Of course, if you are even more adventurous, you can take your kids to the local library and read more information about your… hunting capture! You know, like in the old days!
You could find wild herbs, rosemary, or sage, and your kids will learn more about their culinary or medical virtues. You can find snowdrops, wild primroses, or it could be a beautiful colorful flower you’ve never seen before. You can keep them in a vase, or you can dare to try the next step. Teach your kids to press those flowers, between the pages of a thick book, if you still have books home, in this digital era, or between to paper towels, on a cutting board, with a heavy pot on top of them.
Teach your kids how to use their nice pressed flowers and herbs to create a little decor, framing them like paintings or pictures, or even turning them into nice postcards for Easter. This could be their first business activity, too! They could earn some money with their wild flowers postcards!
Just think of how nice it would be to encourage them to get their friends to enjoy your little group, next time when you’ll go out for a new… flowers hunting! This could be a nice activity all year long and also a great opportunity to learn more about your kids, especially when they are not too talkative during… family dinners!
