Secret yummy flavor
Sometimes your good old soul food needs a magic touch, so your kids and your dear ones have a nice surprise and enjoy it even more. You know, it’s great to get out of your comfort zone, from time to time!
My secret ingredient when it comes to add more yumminess to any stew, or soup, is the pickles brine, or even the sauerkraut brine. The sour, salty, dill(ish) taste works great with a hint of garlic flavor and takes your… ordinary beans, or potatoes dishes to the next level of yumminess.
You can also add some chili paste, when kids are not around, but, trust me, your dear ones will always ask for more! With a little help of one unexpensive ingredient, you can also enjoy a spicy sour soup, simply using the sauerkraut brine. Make sure you don’t add salt before you taste the soup or your stew with brine in.
This is not just a good way to reinvent your soul food, but it is also a healthy way to enjoy good bacteria resulted from the natural fermentation process of turning veggies into pickles. The dill and garlic you usually add to give your pickles some extra flavor will work great with your sour meat soup, or any stew you cook.
